Academic Advisor Responsibilities
The University has academic advisors ready to assist you with your academic needs. Students should meet with their academic advisor every fall and spring semester. The advising conference is more than a time to select courses. It is an opportunity for students and advisors to develop and evaluate academic and educational plans that will enable the students to reach their goals. They will help you:
- select appropriate courses for your choice of major
- explain policies and procedures
- assist with schedule conflicts
- facilitate policy exception requests
- determine graduation needs
Who is my Advisor?
Students not admitted (Pre-business) to the College of Business are assigned an advisor in the Undergraduate Advising Resource Center (UARC). Pre-business students can make an appointment with their academic advisor by going to the Undergraduate Advising Resource Center, Dempsey 130, or call 424-1268 Monday through Friday from 8:00am-4:30pm. The COBA advisors are:

Student Academic Report (STAR)
The STAR displays all your completed courses according to their University
application. Examples of this application are English Composition,
Non-Western Culture, Humanities, Lab Science/Natural Science, etc. This
information will aid both you and your advisor in determining which requirements
are completed and which ones remain. The instructions on printing
and accessing your STAR are on TitanWeb. Remember to
bring your STAR with you when meeting with your advisor.
TitanWeb
TitanWeb is the University’s online registration system. TitanWeb allows students to review their enrollment appointment, add/drop courses, print class schedules, do class searches, check assigned advisors, print unofficial transcripts, review holds, check grades, print STARs and link to the electronic catalog. Course Prerequisites
Many courses at UW Oshkosh require other courses be completed or satisfied
prior to enrolling in the desired course. Always check the most current
B.B.A. Planning Sheet for prerequisites. If there are still questions,
contact your advisor.
The College monitors prerequisites. If you have not met course
prerequisites, you will be removed from the class in question, and notified
by mail. In addition, PeopleSoft will prevent your
registering in a course when prerequisites are not met. Rescheduling
for the same section of that course is not guaranteed if removed from the
course.
Students with sufficient expertise, which may exempt them from a course prerequisite, should consult an advisor in the UARC or faculty advisor. The advisor will assist in completing an appeal form. This request must be approved by the College of Business Undergraduate Program Director. Students that have completed a prerequisite course at another university/college must have an official transcript sent to the UW Oshkosh Admissions Office to be evaluated and added to your UW Oshkosh transcript.for an evaluation.
Access to a Closed Course
Some sections of classes are filled during registration and before the semester begins. The procedure for access to a closed section varies with the college and/or the class. If the course is a College of Education, Nursing or Letters and Science course, permission is obtained from the course instructor or department chairperson. The course instructor can: 1) sign your add card granting permission; 2) put your name on a wait list, or; 3) say "no." If school is not in session, contact the department secretary concerning procedures.
If it is a College of Business course, students should visit the
College office, Clow 151 (424-1444). See COBA Waitlist
Policy in Policies and Procedures section.
Remember, prerequisites must also be met for the course.
