Centers of Excellence

UW Oshkosh has a tradition of connecting with businesses of the region to provide valuable consulting and training programs.

Wisconsin Financial Services Institute (WFSI)

WFSI provides educational services to professionals in the financial services and insurance industries. WFSI will offer classroom-based courses and continuing education programs for professionals at multiple sites in NE Wisconsin.

WFSI offers Certified Financial Planner certification courses. Other areas of study will be offered as industry needs require. Courses will be developed by both College of Business faculty and industry professionals.

The WFSI is led by Co-Directors Kristine Beck, Ph.D. and Barry Mulholland, MBA, CFP®, both members of the College's Finance and Business Law Team. Dr. Kristine Beck specializes in the area of investments and Barry Mulholland specializes in the area of applied financial planning.

CASPER

To address the growing concerns of environmental accountability in business, the College has created the Center for Advancement of Sustainable Processes and Ethical Research (CASPER).

VISION: A regional center for Sustainable Supply chain and Environmental excellence.

FOCUS: Flow, efficiency, innovation with focus on the triple bottom line (economics, environment, equity) from a proactive, design based perspective.

Products offered to members:

GOALS:

  1. Drive sustainable business practice and resultant economic growth in NE Wisconsin.
  2. Conduct research to enable sustainable business practice and environmental literacy in NE Wisconsin.
  3. Develop opportunities for students and faculty to engage in projects that promote environmental and economic sustainability in the region.

Family and Closely-held Businesses

The Center for Family and Closely-held Businesses provides consulting, research, credit and non-credit courses. The Center has participated in the development of a state-wide awards program for small growing businesses and worked with Corporate Report Wisconsin and Associated Bank in sponsoring the awards.

Council for Innovation (CFI)

VISION: (Cultivate) - The CFI cultivates a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship to vault Northeast Wisconsin's innovative and entrepreneurial companies into and across the regional, national, and global economies as high-impact players.

MISSION: (Identify, Enable, Promote) - CFI identifies, enables, and promotes high-growth, high-impact innovative and entrepreneurial companies and accelerates a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in NE Wisconsin.

PURPOSE: (Facilitate) - CFI facilitates the exchange and delivery of information, intelligence, and knowledge throughout a distributed network of innovators, entrepreneurs, investors, and the people who support them.

DELIVERABLES: (Develop) - CFI achieves its Vision, MIssion, and Purpose by providing programs in four major areas:

  1. Education and Development
  2. Capital Formation
  3. Mentoring and Networking
  4. Communications
