- APICS chaper received 14th platinum award; 8 more than any school in the nation
- 1st program in the nation to require Environmental Management as part of the major
- Sustainability is a cornerstone of the major and will prepare our student to face the difficult resource decisions in the next 20 years
Supply chain and operations management (SCOM) incorporates the approaches utilized to efficiently integrate suppliers, producers and distributors so that products and/or services are delivered at the right time, to the right place, in the right quantity, in the right quality, at the right cost in a sustainable manner. It is also the fastest growing major in the college. Employment opportunities are outstanding and starting salaries are among the highest in the College of Business.
The major requires a level of detail, problem solving, technology utilization and quantitative methods to help solve logistics problems such as how much inventory should I have, what should be produced this week, and where is the best location for my warehouse? SCOM also requires a heavy dose of common sense laced with the ability to look long-term into issues such as environmental sustainability, human resource development, lean processes, and strategic planning. Our graduates must have excellent communications skills, as they will be working with both the CEO and front-line workers.
The SCOM curriculum at UW Oshkosh incorporates a series of courses designed to make the student business-ready. We have the traditional courses in analytical planning and operations management. In addition, we have cutting edge courses in environmental management, strategy and supply chain management. SCOM students will all complete an internship at a regional firm, and will complete a consulting-type project for select firms where they will address a specific business need. Our students graduate with a unique exposure to the nuts and bolts of operations, combined with a strategic perspective which enables them to qualify for a variety of jobs at graduation.
